Studies on the representation of the LGTBI character in the audiovisual field

Fernando Fernández Torres is a researcher and professor in the Degree in Audiovisual Communication at Miguel Hernández University and a member of the Massiva Research Group that studies the interrelationship between audiovisual arts and mass culture. He is currently a doctoral student at the University of Alicante within the program ‘Economy, business and society’, where he is writing his thesis on the Spanish music video on the theme of LGBTIQ (1979-2019). He has been teaching graphic expression and animation at the UMH for more than 10 years and during the period 2008-2012 he was professor at the Ciudad de la Luz Higher Education Center, teaching the subjects of Advertising and Audiovisual Marketing.

Professionally he is dedicated to graphic design and illustration, collaborating with newspapers like Escaparate, national magazines like Oh my God! And Chueca.com, and international ones like Winq(Netherlands). In 2013 he published his first graphic novel Anselmo with Edicions de Ponent, and has done numerous mural interventions for the city councils of municipalities in the province of Alicante. He has carried out campaigns for LGBTIQ institutions such as Diversitat Alacant and Mariola, for the Valencian Toy Museum and for the equality councils of various towns in La Foia de Castalla. Since 2017, he has presided over the artistic and cultural association Engafat de la Foia de Castalla, from where he organizes and curates the travelling exhibition of contemporary art ‘Històries de Joguets’, which has already gone through four editions. He has also directed and collaborated in the Jornades d’Art Obert that promotes social integration through mural art.
