Research and development in the field of animation and audiovisual graphics

Arly Jones (Juan M. Navarro Puchaes) is a filmmaker and illustrator from Alicante who began his professional career in 1990 in Barcelona, participating in many projects in advertising, publishing, architecture, interior design, toy design and animation film. He currently combines his professional work with teaching, from the Department of Art, teaching the subject of Animation Film (Animation I and II) in the Degree of Audiovisual Communication at the University Miguel Hernández. In 2009, he founded, together with filmmaker Sami Natshet, the Cabeza Voladora studio with the aim of training new talents in animation and the production of animated films. Since then, he has directed and actively participated as a storyboard artist, character design, set design and concept art and animator.

Among all his works, his work as a cartoonist in the pre-production of the feature film Chico y Rita(2010, Javier Mariscal and Fernando Trueba), winner of the European Film Awards, Animation category (2011), winner of the Goya Award for Best Animated Feature Film (2012) and nominated the same year for the Oscars of the US Film Academy, stands out. Up in the Sky, (2015) music video by the band Kapland with thirteen awards in international competitions. Colors (2017) short animation film, with six first prizes in international festivals and nominated for the Goya Awards. He designed the illustrations for The adventures of Ili Palmer, Moose Award 2013 for the best advertising campaign (Tarsa Comunicación for the Elche City Council Tourism Department). In 2014, wins the award for best mural design and execution in a public place, by the City of Alicante, in the public park Golf San Juan, Alicante. It has an award for best male performance in the Creando Film Festival, in the only film project that has made in this category, for the short film Fredo (2016 Arrebato Films) made by students of the University Miguel Hernández, (Àlvar Bermejo, Salva Feltrer and Alberto Zamora). He has created training programs around animation and illustration and has given workshops in countries such as Venezuela, Mexico, Portugal and Cyprus and the international school of animation L’Idem in Barcelona. Since 2006 he has developed special activities around children’s education through artistic disciplines, highlighting the coordination and participation in the Mustang Art Gallery’s Young Promises Campus.
